BowlsWorld.com.au was founded in 2006 by Peter Williams and Phil Leahy.
Passionate lawn bowlers, Williams and Leahy sought to incorporate the marketing of bowls products with all aspects of the sport on one website.
As online marketing experts, they decided to combine their passion with their business interests.
After examining various online retailers, Peter and Phil discovered that bowlers were calling out for a comprehensive one-stop site. "It's about time lawn bowls moved with the times" is what they kept hearing.
Their vision is to not only have a comprehensive bowls site, but to also allow bowlers to have a voice through the bowlsworld.com.au forum.
For too long lawn bowls has been the poor cousin to the majority of sports, even though it has the second highest participation rate out of all organized sport in Australia.
The demographic of lawn bowls has changed dramatically in the past few years, and is being embraced by thousands of 20somethings and Generation Xers. |
"The barefoot bowls has made a huge impact on the reputation of the game and seeing our national and state teams with an abundance of players in their 20s, is very exciting for the potential of the sport." Phil says.
Peter and Phil are fanatical about the game and want to see the profile of lawn bowls up there with the other leading sports in this country.
"If we can make a contribution to lawn bowls with our site and forum and have an impact on the powers-that-be to move our great game into the 21st century, our aim will have been achieved," Peter says.
